Upgrading to Windows 8 Will Cost Less than $40

In order to spread its new operating system, Microsoft announced on Monday that users of Windows XP, Vista, and 7 will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for only $39.99.

To acquire the upgrade at that price, users will have to purchase and download it from Windows.com. From that page the company will also offer a backup DVD for an extra $15 plus shipping and handling costs. Besides, there will be a packaged DVD version of the upgrade available to be bought on local stores for $69.99.

According to the announcement, this upgrade promotion will be available only until January 31st 2013. A report citing confidential sources informed that Windows 8 would be released next October, this year.
