Microsoft announced last Tuesday the launch of Outlook.com, its new web based email service available for free.
One of the most remarkable characteristics of Outlook.com is the simplicity of its user interface. According to the announcement other features are "...an inbox with virtually unlimited storage, industry leading spam protection, and rock solid account protection powered by your Microsoft account." Besides being web based the service is also designed to be accessed through Microsoft Outlook, the desktop application.
Although the new product will work independently from Hotmail, that belongs also to Microsoft, users of the old webmail service will be able to upgrade to Outlook.com keeping their "@hotmail.com" email addresses. On the other hand, the addresses of those who create an account in the new service will end in "@outlook.com".
